Launch – Note from the Author

I’m so happy to be back touring with Prism and am excited to share my new book Sweet Home Montana with everyone. This is book number three in the Charity, Montana trilogy for TULE publishing. It is the sweetest of all three books, in my opinion. Think Hallmark movies and you understand what I’m talking about. No angst or deep drama, but definite issues that both characters must face and “fix”, so they can move forward to a truly fulfilling life…

It’s All About the Romance – Excerpt

She had been volunteering at The Acres, as the crew called it, for three years, and Dr. Anderson insisted it was time to move on. To finish that degree in business. Get a job that paid more. In the real world. For Erin, Healing Heart Acres was as real world as she wanted to be. Because it was the place that helped put broken people back together.

Maybe I should start telling her how much I love giving the tour and that I never want to work with the animals again. The absurd reverse psychology trick made her smile.

“Oh, glad to see you’re happy about your schedule,” Elsbeth Anderson said, stepping out of nowhere, catching Erin mid-grin.

Uplifting Reads – Review

“As Erin and Wade’s lives weave together, there are naturally some bumps along the road. It’s all about how they work through those struggles to understand each other and to nurture the relationship they find themselves embarking upon, in spite of their personal struggles.

This was the perfect book to curl up with on a cold and rainy fall day.”

Wishful Endings – Excerpt

Mid-chew, he glanced at the door, surprised, and very pleased, to see Erin come in. He smiled, watched, and waited as she made her entry…

With a toddler?

“Choc milk,” the little brown-haired girl said, all excited.

“Just like I promised.” Erin was completely at ease with the child, guiding her toward the counter to make their order.

Unexplained disappointment surprised Wade, along with a slew of questions about Erin. Was she married? He hadn’t noticed a ring. But, since the kid looked so much like her, she was obviously a mother.

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

A flashy silver sedan drove up and parked in the lot, and a father-son duo straight out of the pages of Gentleman’s Quarterly magazine got out. The son was sullen, casting a suspicious gaze, as if thinking this was the dumbest idea he’d ever heard of. Breaking with GQ chic, he wore a silly knit cap that stood out for two reasons, it wasn’t that cold, and there was a moose face on it. It took confidence to pull off the look.

The father seemed determined, as many parents were when they arrived, usually after having Healing Heart Acres recommended by someone in the professional community—a teacher, therapist, or pastor. The parents often arrived hoping to find the magic solution to help their kid. Erin knew the look, even though it was on an exceptionally young-looking father’s face.

Paulette’s Papers – Excerpt

After the usual welcoming remarks for the acres each person introduced themselves. She saved the father and son for last.

“I’m Wade Conrad. Grew up in Charity, around an hour from here. Heard about Healing Heart Acres and wanted to check it out.”

He seemed pleasant enough, but got his story out fast, probably out of courtesy, unlike Mrs. Pimento who’d gone on and on. Yet, watching and listening to Wade excited Erin, a feeling she’d nearly forgotten where men were concerned. The immediate excitement he provoked in her, was also terrifying. Fortunately, she’d only have to deal with the younger version of him.

Colorimetry – Excerpt

Why did the man make her edgy? Probably because she’d rarely been around such a devastatingly handsome male. She glanced to Brent, sure to become as commanding as his father as he matured. He, unlike his attentive father, watched a ground squirrel instead of the corralled animals, probably not listening to a word she said.

She showed everyone how to hold grain on a flat palm, so the sheep only ate the food and didn’t nibble their fingers. Everyone always got a kick out of that, except Brent, who clearly wasn’t interested.

Getting Your Read On – Review

“If you are looking for a sweet, gentle romance to curl up with on a cool fall evening, then look no further. This book has all the feel good elements with likable characters and a believable story line.”

Stacking My Book Shelves! – Excerpt

A sharp whistle pierced the air, the kind cowboys used on cattle drives. “Erin!” Wade’s voice called out before she stepped inside. She stopped, turned, waited for the tall, dark-haired and green-eyed man to reach her. Again, an unwanted reaction circled her skin. But she wasn’t here to swoon, she was here to be helpful. He obviously had a problem with his son.

Cover Lover Book Review – Review

“Sweet Home Montana encompasses sweet, gentle, unhurried romance. It’s a story of personal growth—stepping out of complacency and exploring a deeper, more satisfying life.”

underneath the covers – Excerpt

To keep communication open, nervous as Erin was to have a conversation alone with Wade Conrad, she smiled and widened her eyes. “Need some extra encouragement?” Hoping he couldn’t pick up on her reaction to him.

He was probably used to it with all women. How could he not be, growing up looking like that? He probably didn’t even notice anymore.

“How’d you guess?”

“I’ve been reading Brent’s body language. He’s not here voluntarily, is he.” It wasn’t a question.

Remembrancy – Review

“Lynne Marshall gives readers a taste of small-town Montana life (and made me crave some huckleberry pie in the process) in this sweet romance…

Sweet Home Montana is a read to snuggle up with in front of a fire or under that plaid flannel blanket. Get ready for a little romance this fall.”

Nan Reinhardt’s Blog – Excerpt

Once Wade took off, Erin recovered and wandered over to Brent, who sat on a bench staring at his boots. “Mind if I join you?”

He glanced up. Rather than answering, he tipped his chin up, as in yes.

She sat gingerly on the other end of the bench. “I guess I read you wrong.”

He tossed her a confused and perturbed glance. “He tell you I don’t talk to him because he doesn’t like being my brother?”

Book Lover in Florida – Excerpt

“What’s the point of this place? Why should I come here?” Brent asked.

“How about, for starters, for the sake of a new experience?” Erin replied. “We offer a chance for people to learn about themselves by participating in activities like daily care routines with our animals. It’s a chance to do something good, too. Then all we do is talk about it afterward.” She carefully left out the part about talking about their feelings. “It’s no biggie.” She played it down, knowing how resistant some teens were about anything they were uncomfortable with. “A lot of teenagers wind up really enjoying it. By the way, the horses would rather hang out with their peers, too.”

Becky on Books – Review

“I really enjoyed Erin and Wade’s story, and was rooting for them to work things out from the very first page. The complications along the way were believable, and though resolved a bit easily, everything was still plausible. The secondary characters–including Brent, Rosie, and Diana–made the story feel well-rounded and Charity, Montana seem like a place I’d love to visit–and eat some pie.”

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

“I enjoyed this sweet story. I felt connected to Erin Chase from the start. I love that she worked at a horse therapy center. What a unique profession!”

Inside The Mind of an Avid Reader – Review

“This book is gentle and sweet. Erin and Wade are wonderful.”

Teatime and Books – Excerpt

Wade stood in the back in the main house as the video history about Healing Heart Acres and equine therapy played. Instead of paying attention, he thought about how he’d wound up back home.

After a long pause in communicating with his father, Wade’s excuse being he was too busy, always too busy, his dad had called, and Wade had thought the worse.

“Dad? Is anything wrong?”

“No, Son, everything’s right, I mean great. It’s been ages since we’ve talked.” So true, and unacceptable, and that made his calling suspicious and Wade’s guilt-o-meter whirl.

Reading Is My SuperPower – Review

“This is a sweet & cute romance set in more than one delightful small town with gorgeous scenery and a quirkiness apparently inherent to Montana. There is more ‘telling’ than i like (rather than showing me) and some of the Montana-isms felt a bit awkward with the flow of the story. But overall these characters will quickly win you over, and so does their story – thanks to Marshall’s warm writing voice and sweet plot. If you’re a fan of Hallmark movies, this is a great pick for your reading list!”

Excerpt

Jaycee tossed a paper towel in the trash and met Melissa’s gaze in the mirror over the sink.
“When are you going to tell him?”
“Tell who what?” Melissa asked as she dug in her bag for lip balm.
“Tell Justin you have feelings for him.”
Melissa froze. Blinked a few times and glanced at Jaycee. “What are you talking about?”
Jaycee rested her hip against the counter and crossed her arms over her chest. “Don’t play dumb with me. I see how you look at him, especially when he doesn’t know it.”
“He’s my friend and I’m glad he’s home.”
“Really? That’s it?”
Melissa shrugged and resumed her searching. “What more could there be?”
“You tell me.”
“There’s nothing to tell.”
“Then why don’t you date?”
Melissa gripped the tube of balm in her fingers. “I date.”
“Name the last time you went out with a guy.”
She racked her brain but came up empty. “College, maybe?”
“That was six years ago.”
“No…it can’t be that long.”
Jaycee arched a brow.
“Wait. I went out with Roger Pierce for a while.”
“Until he moved away.” Jaycee shook her head. “I’m telling you, you have it bad for Justin.”
Did she? Did that explain the tingles she’d been trying to ignore? Or had she been without a significant other for too long now?
Slowly spreading the balm across her lips, Melissa met her own gaze in the mirror. Clear brown eyes peered back, but a rosy red had crept into her cheeks. She recognized the look, had seen it on dozens of bride’s faces through the years.
Good grief, was she in love with Justin?
“Do you care for him as more than just a friend?” Jaycee asked when Melissa had been quiet too long.
“Of course not.”
Despite her words, Melissa flashed back to that Christmas Eve many years ago when they’d promised to be friends forever. How they’d carried through on the vow, remaining friends through high school and stayed in touch when he left Christmas Town for college. She understood why he didn’t return, so she’d made sure to visit him in Boston. Once their friends had started to marry, meeting up at weddings had become their thing. But was that good enough for her now?
Tossing the tube back in her purse with more pressure than she intended, Melissa closed the bag. Pushed her unsettling thoughts away. “You’re imagining things.”
With a shrug, Jaycee pushed from the counter. “If you say so.”
“I say so,” she said, yanking the door open to return to the raucous, overcrowded pub.

Launch – Note from the Author

Hello, romance readers! Welcome to COMING HOME TO YOU, the last instalment in my Greene Family trilogy, featuring Mel Greene and Daphne Merlotte in their fake romance turned real! You can meet Mel first in A Roof Over Their Heads where Mel appeared as the wise and endearing older brother to the hero, Seth Greene. I always intended that Mel remain as a minor character but my editor at the time suggested that he warranted his own story. You must be kidding, I thought. Mel is far from your typical alpha hero: good-looking but not gorgeous, witty but not particularly learned, hugely likeable but not swoon-worthy. Mel commands one trait above all others though that makes him the perfect romantic hero: deserving. Mel deserves his happily ever after, and once readers met him, they were on side with my editor. Give us his story!…

Katie’s Clean Book Collection – Review

“There are moments of nostalgia, mixed with bitter, deep-rooted pain that emotionally twisted my heart, but there are also plenty of sweet and slightly humorous moments that balanced everything nicely. The romance is gentle and progresses at a nice pace, even though it is on the fast side.

For me, it was a character driven story and this cast is unusual and unpredictable, which made this a fun escape.”

Nicole’s Book Musings – Excerpt

[Mel] hitched himself higher up in his seat. “I guess I’m wondering how to go about making a woman feel that she matters when…” He needed to proceed carefully. He’d already said plenty to Daphne that had come out wrong. “When showing how much she matters might scare her off, too.”

“Why would a woman be scared off by hearing how much she was loved?”

Well, now. He gunned the truck to merge onto the highway, ahead of a fast-approaching red sports car, which immediately switched lanes and started coming up on his left. “I guess she might feel she has to give back the same amount, and I wouldn’t expect her to.”

Book by Book – Review

“M.K. Stelmack’s Coming Home to You is such a sweet romance. With characters a little older than the typical romantic protagonists, a humorous first meeting, a subsequent fake relationship, a cast of quirky secondary characters, and a whole lot of healing to be done, it’s an easily enjoyable and completely heartwarming story.”

Reading Is My SuperPower – Review

Coming Home to You hums with a mix of nostalgia and humor, with a healthy dose of sweet romance and layered characters. You will smile and laugh, as well as shed a few tears, along the way as Mel and Daphne’s pretend relationship starts to blur into reality more and more. Daphne’s godmother Fran is a hoot – and also the source of a few tears on my part – and I could easily see her scenes playing out in a movie. A lovely read with a range of emotions – all done well.”

7 Tips to Making a Fake Romance Real According to Mel
(A fictitious reprint of an article to appear in the Valentine edition of the local community magazine.)

Just to be clear, I’m not an advocate of faking anything, especially love, so I’d better give a bit of a background here. I’d met Daphne only twice before—once when her godmother rammed their RV into the local Tim Hortons and the second time later that day when I drove her back from the hospital. The third time was nearly a week later when I was sitting in their RV, waiting on lemonade Daphne was making. Things were a tetch touchy between the two of them and I admit to voicing a cross word at Fran, the godmother, for her uncalled-for rudeness to Daphne. But I felt stunned—like I’d fallen clear off a roof I was shingling (I’m a roofer by trade) when Daphne squeezed in tight against me on the couch and planted a real long, soft kiss on me, right in front of her godmother….

E-Romance News – Excerpt

Later, Daphne attributed her next move to a fear for Fran, who would soon be dead, and for herself, who would soon be alone. And to the warmth in Mel’s gaze and his propensity to settle for anyone.

Still holding the lemon, she walked stiff and slow, like a bride, over to Mel and sat beside him at an angle so her knees grazed his. “Yes,” she said. “There’s something you should know, Fran. All those walks I took. I wasn’t alone. Mel and I have had some very, very good…talks.”

She slid her hand over his knee and applied gentle pressure. He froze. Fran was absolutely riveted. “Well, Mel. What do you think?”

My Devotional Thoughts – Review

“…After reading this book, you will feel uplifted and filled with the sweetness that comes from reading a heartwarming romance like this.

I definitely appreciated the ages of the characters. I am only slightly younger than our two lovebirds in the book, and in my opinion, there are not enough romances out there with mature couples. So thanks to the author for reminding us that just because you turn fifty does not mean you can no longer find love.”

10 Tips on RV Living from a Newbie
(A short fictitious article Daphne Merlotte sold to a travel magazine about RV living.)

1. Start short. My first trip was with my godmother from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Spirit Lake, Alberta—a distance of nearly 5000 km (3000 miles). My second trip was not three months later, when I did the trip again and then carried on to Vancouver, another 1000 km (600 miles), and then back again to Spirit Lake, for a grand total of 7000 km (4200 miles). By the end of it all, I was a veteran of RV life, but quite honestly, the most pleasant was the shortest trip—from Vancouver to Spirit Lake. Perhaps that had less to do with distance than with Tip #2…

Handcrafted Reviews – Excerpt

“Is that why you kissed me in full view of Tom? So I’d look good in front of him?”

From her expression, he’d guessed right.

“It’s not that I consider myself a replacement, you understand,” she said. “I couldn’t compete with Linda. But, at times, it’s nice to have…anybody.”

He nudged her chin up until her clear blue eyes met his. “You’re not anybody,” he said. “You’re somebody. My somebody.”

Remembrancy – Review

“First and foremost, I have to say, I loved reading a romance where the main characters are finding love (for the first time) at an age I am approaching (fifty). As someone who is still single in her mid-forties, books like Coming Home to You resonate well with me…

M. K. Stelmack delivers a story of healing and hope. . . . And I, for one, found it refreshing and uplifting.”

It’s All About the Romance – Guest Post

Romance with All the Feels

COMING HOME TO YOU, is another story that delivers a huge emotional punch. So says my editor, and I trust her explicitly. It’s why romance readers choose this genre, right? Everyone thinks they are just love stories, but we know they are stories that plow through the entire field of emotions, unearthing the metaphorical dirt on our hero and heroine…

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

He drove to an apartment building a block from the downtown. His place. About to turn down into the underground parking, Mel braked. “I never thought to ask,” he said. “Would you prefer a hotel? I’d pay until this is all sorted.”

“I’m fine. If you are. Either way. Whichever you prefer.” Because unless she wanted to clamber into a Dumpster, she really was at his mercy.

He eased off the brake. “I prefer you with me.”

Christy’s Cozy Corners – Review

“Lovers of clean romance, add Coming Home to You to your lists now! Coming Home to You has humor, romance, heartbreak, reconciliation, and great characters. I love that the characters in the series are older than in a typical romance…

I highly recommend this book!”

Teatime and Books – Guest Post

Love Over Forty

Love over forty? Fifty? And beyond? Sure, it’s possible. It happens all the time, but not so much in a romance novel. COMING HOME TO YOU is an exception in the genre. My hero, MEL GREENE, celebrates his 51st birthday in the story and his love interest, Daphne Merlotte, is 49. Both are childless, although the families of his siblings are core to Mel’s daily life. Surveys among Harlequin readers indicate that most readers favor younger H/Hs, so I expect that a few of you might give my story a bit of the side-eye—I understand! But stay with me here as I go over the unique and compelling challenges a mature couple face…

Book Lover in Florida – Excerpt

“Do you want breakfast?”

Daphne looked up. “If that’s not too much trouble.”

“No trouble at all.” He poured so much truth into that statement, it came out soft and mushy. Daphne colored.

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“This is a fun romance. . . . I highly recommend this book to other readers. I like Spirit Lake where this contemporary romance takes place. It sounds like a great place to live.”

Party Planning 101: Five Tips from the Pros

Who doesn’t love a great party, right? Just the word conjures up thoughts of friends, laughter, good food and possibly distant memories of pin the tail on the donkey. My new book, Political Parties, is all about planning an epic party. The heroine, event planner Reece Ryan, has to work with hotshot lawyer Griffith Brighton to pull off a career changing event that is out of both of their leagues. It’s a fun story full of laughter, love and plenty of party-planning drama…

Remembrancy – Review

“While parts of the book were a little predictable, especially near the end, those same things are what made this read completely worth the investment. Political Parties is thoroughly enjoyable if you’re looking for a contemporary romance with some heart and depth.”

Jorie Loves A Story – Excerpt

The important thing was to stay calm. Although at this exact moment, Reece Ryan felt anything but calm. So what if this was a minor—okay, major problem? Every problem had a solution. Even major ones.

“We can fix it,” Reece said, her eyes glued to the bridal bouquet in her hand.

“Fix it?” Bella glared wide-eyed at the offending flowers as if Reece were holding roadkill.

Katie’s Clean Book Collection – Review

“…This opposites-attract story really exuded a strong chemistry, which stemmed from dislike, but quickly escalated into something tangible and sweet.

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review & Excerpt

“This is a great story. I love a good romance and this story has one, with a lot of other things happening.”

“I’m sorry. Do we know each other?” Griffith said.

She let out an exasperated sigh, which was probably meant to display her irritation but only highlighted her cute sweetheart mouth. “You tripped me before the wedding.”

Her tone hinted at the absurdity that he could forget her. At least they could agree on that. She had a certain unforgettable quality, and for a moment, he stood mesmerized by her.

Party Planning 101: DIY Photo Booth

My newest book, Political Parties, is about planning a couple big, flashy events. The first party, the one the cover is based on, is over the top in almost every aspect. Crystal chandeliers hanging from oak trees, a five course menu prepared by an award winning chef, live music. Of course, it has an over-the-top price tag to go along with it…

Getting Your Read On – Review

“Rachel Magee’s writing style was entertaining and bubbly- her attention to building lovable characters made the story flow perfectly. A clean, funny romance while snuggled in a fuzzy blanket is exactly what this girl needed after a long day at work, and let’s face it, sometimes a movie just doesn’t do it the same way an adorable novel like this does. I fell in love with all the exciting twists and turns in this delightful book; this is a love story I’ll be sure to recommend.”

Rainy Day Reviews – Review & Excerpt

“This was such a fun and in-depth read, different from my typical reading choice. The book as a whole was enjoyable but there were moments that I specifically enjoyed…”

“Riiiight.” Bella’s eyes were wide. “And we think we can do this because…”

Reece brightened her smile. “Because we’re us. And this is what we do.”

Except this wasn’t what they did. When Lester offered to let her handle the next couple of corporate events, she assumed they would be more along the lines of a company Christmas party or fundraising gala. She was not expecting something this big. Or this quick. Reece should have been nervous, but there wasn’t time for that.

Party Planning 101: Taking your Party to the Outdoor Festival

One of my favorite parts of my new book Political Parties is when Griffith and Reece head to the hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Surrounded by the vivid colors of the hot air balloons and the crisp fall air, things between them really start to heat up…

Reading On The Edge – Excerpt

“Ms. Ryan, I presume,” the strong voice called from behind her.

Reece scrambled to her feet to greet the owner of the voice. As she turned, her eyes met his and she stopped short.

The man standing behind her was not what she was expecting. He wasn’t silver-haired with a stout frame. This guy was young, maybe thirty, with the kind of naturally perfect hair and build that could pass for a model. All he was missing was a smile.

Bookworm Lisa – Review

“I enjoyed the moments in this book. It takes place in a short period of time, but the characters are able to get to know each other. The romance didn’t feel rushed to me. Not everything works out perfectly, but I loved how the characters were able to resolve their trials.”

So she dropped the dream of becoming a world famous illustrator and stuck to spinning stories. When she’s not busy working on her latest book, she loves to travel with her family and friends. By far, her favorite destination is the beach, which tends to work its way into most of her stories. Between vacations, you can find her at home in The Woodlands, TX with her wonderful husband, their two adventurous kids and a couple of spirited pets, all of whom share Rachel’s love of the ocean. Well, except the cat and dog. They’re both afraid of water. Find out more about what Rachel has been up to at rachelmageebooks.com.

Book Tour Grand Finale for
A Cowboy’s Pride
By Karen Rock
We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you can see snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

Welcome back to the Cade and Loveland family saga! So far, we’ve been following the lives and loves of the Cade family. A Cowboy’s Pride is the first book featuring the Cade’s lifelong feuding neighbors, the Lovelands. Unlike the passionate, strong-willed, impetus Cades, the Loveland cowboys are tight-lipped, slow to anger, stubborn and protective of each other and those they love. This book is about second chance romance, family drama caused by old scandals, and learning never to take love for granted or squander a chance at happily-ever-after when you are lucky enough to find it… especially the second time around…

Reading Is My SuperPower – Review

“If you haven’t yet met the Cades and the Lovelands, now’s a great time to catch up! This is a series that must not be missed by any fans of swoony kisses, rugged cowboys, and strong heroines. The separate plot threads each are fully dimensional yet they are also seamlessly woven together to create a story you won’t want to put down. I can’t wait to spend more time with this feuding clan of cowboys (and a couple of cowgirls) and see where Rock takes them next!”

Katie’s Clean Book Collection – Review

“This love story has plenty of electrical moments, but the characters different wants and needs take the romance on a long, hard journey. The writing style carried me away, as it was so vivid and descriptive. The plot, the chemistry, the swoony kisses, the mystery, and the characters make this read very enjoyable!”

Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt

“A lot’s changed since then.” The brahman heifer bellowed when she spied them on the fence, protective of her newborn.

“Your freckles,” he observed, watching the calf suckle.

“Freckles?”

He cocked his head and studied Katie-Lynn’s smooth, flawless skin. It resembled porcelain… fragile and untouchable… so unlike the country girl-next-door he’d known. Loved. “What happened to them?”

“My plastic surgeon lasered them off.” She said it like someone might say, my dentist cleaned my teeth. As though having a plastic surgeon was no big deal, and maybe it wasn’t in Hollywood.

“Why do you have a plastic surgeon?”

“To make me beautiful.”

He shook his head, marveling. “You already were pretty.”

The Power of Words – Review

A Cowboy’s Pride pulled me in with its beautiful cover – and while covers don’t always deliver what they promise, this one certainly does…

I loved this story, as well as the whole series, and hope it continues for a long time.

E-Romance News – Excerpt

“Would you call me a ‘bad boy’?”

“Let’s see.” Katlynn tapped her chin, breathing in the cool mountain air, fresh balsam and columbine. “You’re stubborn. Fiercely independent. Thick-headed. A loner. Extremely protective of those you love.” She paused and touched the black and blue ring around his eye. “Does that hurt?”

“Only when you touch it.”

Cole’s wry tone conjured a smile from her. “And you’re sarcastic.”

“Verdict is…”

“Trouble.”

“What’s that mean?”

Goosebumps rose on her arms at his intense expression, an intense mixture of hope and longing that pierced her straight through. “Trouble for me. Cole, I don’t want to care about you.”

Thoughts of a Blonde – Review

“Delving deeper into the Loveland side of this feud lets us get to know the family better since the series so far had centered around the Cade’s. I enjoyed how well the Cades were still brought into the storyline of this family as well. An enjoyable plot, great characters and a satisfying mystery kept me enthralled throughout!”

Jorie Loves A Story – Excerpt

She turned slightly in the saddle and slipped an arm around his lean waist, holding tight. “I’m glad we found each other again.”

With the reins in one hand, he linked his fingers with hers. “I’m not letting you go without a fight.” He brought Cash to a halt. “You’re my missing piece.”

He slid off the horse and large hands gripped her waist. As he lowered her to her feet, she clung to his strong forearms. He dropped a kiss against her cheek, then her eyelids through the bandanna, while she tried to control her pounding heart. “Can I take this off?” She touched her ban danna’s knot.

“Not yet.” He curved a hand around the nape of her neck.

Harlie’s Books – Review & Excerpt

“Overall, I really liked the book. Just because we find out the mystery and how it was solved by Katlynn, doesn’t mean its over. There is so much more than the feud over water. . . . Ms. Rock has done it again with the Loveland’s and Cade’s. I can’t get enough of them. Just don’t wrap it up too neatly. I believe there are still more mysteries to solve.”

“I forgot how beautiful it is up here!” Katlynn called down to Cole, pausing to watch the sun’s golden orb break across the pink horizon.

Fingers of light probed the valley at their feet. Rays gilded the majestic peaks in the distance and illuminated the sea of trees waving below. There was a magical quality to a Colorado Rockies’ sky that stirred something in her. The sky was bluer than blue, the air fresher. Cleaner. She’d forgotten how heights like this exhilarated her. At this elevation, the weight of her life, her troubles, her worries, dropped away, sandbags cut from a rising balloon.

“I haven’t.” Cole lowered himself onto the thick branch, his back against the trunk. Gripping her hand, he guided her down in front of him so their legs dangled in the air, swinging. His strong arms wrapped around her. They made her feel feminine and safe against his powerful breadth.

Getting Your Read On – Review

“From the first few pages into this book I just knew I was going to be hooked into this second chance at first love story. As everything set up, I said to myself, “Oh, here we go. This is going to be good.” And it was. So, so good. The attraction was there. The tummy butterflies were there. My emotions were engaged and I was fully invested in the story.”

It’s All About the Romance – Excerpt

“I see the way you’ve been looking at Katie-Lynn.”

“What way’s that?”

“Like you’ve still got feelings for her.”

“Dead wrong.” Cole raised his bottle for a drink to shield his expression. Travis was as sharp-eyed as a hawk, reading people and situations in an instant. A good trait for a sheriff. Not so good in a brother when you were hiding something…

“I hope so,” Travis said. “Just remember what happened after she left you.”

“Nothing happened.”

“Except you disappearing for three months.”

A Slice of Life – Review

“Karen Rock’s excellent writing never disappoints, but A Cowboy’s Pride might be my favorite book in her Rocky Mountain Cowboys series…

…A Cowboy’s Pride is filled with suspense and intrigue, as well as mystery, and it’s easy to get swept up in the drama of the three love stories featured in Karen Rock’s well-written novel.”

Teatime and Books – Review

“This is such a phenomenal tale and I immediately fell in love with the H, Cole and his strong but so sweet and very romantic personality. . . . I really enjoyed this tale and if you’re looking for a good, sweet romance then this is the book for you! . . . I’d highly recommend A Cowboy’s Pride!”

Handcrafted Reviews – Excerpt

After a beat of silence, Cole asked, “Why are you poking at me?”

Katie-Lynn passed the back of her hand across her face. “I don’t know. I just… Being around you again… I guess I still care.”“Why?”

“Why?”

“You’ve got everything you wanted—fame, fortune, rich men taking you out on yachts.”

“So what if they have yachts? Money?” Exasperation filled her voice.

“They can give you things.” His voice grew rough. “Things I’ll never be able to.”

Splashes of Joy – Review

“The author does a great job creating the characters and weaving them into a plot that was well thought out and planned. I missed the other books, but glad I read this one. The book that brought the series to and end with all of the excitement that has been building up since the series began. I’m sorry I missed the others, but this one was an amazing read!”

Deal Sharing Aunt – Review

“What a great book! I finally got answers to some of my questions! There were also 2 great couples that got second chances at love. There are so many different cowboy romances out there, that for awhile I stopped reading them. However this series is refreshing and new. Each new book brings couples that grew on me that I get to learn about there past, present, and wonder about there future. There is also a family rivalry/ feud that is explained in this installment. The really great thing about this book is that it also a standalone! So if you have never read the series before, you can still really enjoy this book without getting lost!”

Rockin’ Book Reviews – Review

“Several twists, hidden secrets, adventure, excitement, and emotional conflicts occur within these pages. Unhurried secrets that could set those in present bondage, free!

…The characters are so realistic and the scenes depicted so well, the reader will feel he/she is right there with them!”

Locks, Hooks and Books – Review

“A Cowboy’s Pride is book four from Karen Rock’s series, Rocky Mountain Cowboys. I loved this book! . . . I enjoyed the mystery they were trying to solve to find out what started the hundred year Cade-Loveland feud. Which added more intrigue to the story. Which is great! I have to admit, I cried on the last few pages. I had no idea it would end that way.

I am giving A Cowboy’s Pride a well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend this sweet story.”

Book by Book – Review

“The fourth book of Karen Rock’s Rocky Mountain Cowboys series, A Cowboy’s Pride is a delight to read. It’s everything I love to find in a cowboy romance, and I absolutely enjoyed it…

…There’s mystery, there’s romance, and it’s a whole lot of fun to read.

So, if you’re in need of a sweet, intriguing, romantic book, check out A Cowboy’s Pride. It’s a good one.”

Remembrancy – Review

“Rock builds plenty of tension, fans the flames of the rivalry we’ve come to love between the Cades and Lovelands, oozes plenty of cowboy bravado, and throws in some make-you-melt kissing scenes! All while weaving a mystery of what firmly drew the line between the Cade and Loveland families. And did I mention this is leading up to the marriage that will unite these two families?

Another fabulous, couldn’t put it down read from Rock”

Busy Bumble Bee Book ReviewsReview

“Mrs. Rock takes us on a wild ride in this book when Cole and Katie-Lynn start uncovering Loveland-Cade family secrets. When the start to learn about the real reasons for the family feud. I really enjoyed this book and loved seeing appearences from the Cade clan.”

Excerpt

“Good Morning, Grace.”
Grace gaped and slowed on the porch steps of Brewster’s. The other half of her child’s DNA sat across from Pops. Ethan in his worn boots, faded flannel shirt and baseball cap smiled at her, stirring warmth through her. He returned his attention to the chessboard as if he’d been playing with her grandfather for years. As if this was their morning routine. As if he belonged here on this porch, waiting for her.
Waiting for her to confess.
Grace’s hand drifted to her stomach, her slight bump concealed beneath her jacket. Why did the truth have to be so complicated?
Still she couldn’t quite stall that swirl of warmth inside her from seeing Ethan.
She should be hot from irritation. She should be annoyed with Ethan for intruding on her usual morning routine. She always shared coffee and stories with her grandfather before the store opened. Before the other employees arrived. Before the customers took over the day.
Except this morning, they were a trio, rather than a duo. What was it with people inserting themselves where they didn’t belong? First, there was Sarah Ashley trying to step into the family business for the first time ever, and now, Ethan.
Was it so wrong that Grace wanted one thing to remain the same? To remain normal? In six months, nothing about her life would be either. But she could at least have her usual mornings with Pops, couldn’t she? Surely that wasn’t too much to ask.
“Sit down, Gracie.” Pops pointed at the empty rocking chair beside Ethan. The same one she sat in every morning while she listened to Pops reminisce about her grandmother or his childhood. “Your Ethan here, he already took care of your morning chores for you.” He eyed Ethan over the rims of his glasses and grinned. “Can’t ever get this girl to sit. But I got her good this morning, thanks to you.”
“I can make more coffee.” Ethan’s hand was on a stack of file folders. He glanced at her, and his guarded tone suggested he thought she needed several cups to tackle the Blackwell books.
“I’ve been making the effort to switch to tea.” Grace reached inside her purse for her special ginger tea. She was going to need to steep more than one bag this morning. Sitting next to Ethan was unsettling. She cleared her throat to smooth the accusation out of her voice and looked at him. “You’re up early.”
“Trying to get some errands done before Katie notices I’ve left.” Ethan placed a hand on his white knight and started to move the piece, but then paused to consider the chessboard as if everything hinged on this one particular move.
Whereas for Grace, everything hinged on her baby and keeping her stomach from objecting to the morning’s excitement. Would Ethan expect her to say checkmate when she told him about the baby? As if she’d neatly trapped him into being a dad. And what about marriage? She didn’t want Ethan to offer to marry her because she was carrying his child. But would he believe her?
“Keeping ahead of Katie Montgomery is almost as impossible as staying a step ahead of our Gracie.” Pops stuck his elbows out and leaned on his knees, as if anticipating Ethan’s move. As if Ethan proved a challenge to her grandfather. Ethan shifted his knight, taking Pops’s bishop. Pops rubbed his chin. “Sometimes you get lucky.”
Maybe Grace would get lucky and Ethan would confess he’d always wanted to be a father and couldn’t think of another person he wanted to have a child with other than Grace. The tea bag crinkled in her fist. What a ridiculous thought.
Only fools relied on luck.

Book Tour Grand Finale for

The Lawman’s Secret Vow
By Tara Randel
We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you can see snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

The Lawman’s Secret Vow features Dante Matthews and Eloise Archer. Both are detectives in a local police department, who have been paired up, pretending to be a newly married couple while they infiltrate a car theft ring. Problem is, they discover feelings for each other while undercover. Can they work together and keep their emotions in check as they delve deeper into the case? Or does the real danger come from falling in love?
I hope you enjoy being a part of Dante and Eloise’s journey.
―Tara
Remembrancy – Review
“Randel does a superb job in highlighting the opposites in Dante and Eloise even down to their families and upbringing. And I loved Dante and his brothers (and can’t wait to hang out with a couple of the others in future books).”
As Dante closed the door behind him, he yanked at his tie. The conversation with Chambers set his mind in motion and the idea of being weighed down in paperwork didn’t thrill him. Would there be reams more if he made sergeant? A definite check in the con list.

He’d just settled in his chair when Eloise caught his eye. She was busy writing something on a yellow legal pad. No doubt jotting down notes on a case or for a trial. She was organized that way. Making sure to cross all her t’s and dot all her i’s. Had mad computer skills he lacked. But there was an air of uncertainty about her that he understood. It made him want to coax a smile out of her. She took everything in life so seriously, not even recognizing his teasing until they were well into a conversation. Calling her Ellie was just icing on the cake. He knew it rattled her and thought it might secretly please her.
“This story was such an enjoyable read!…
I loved the romantic tension that developed early on between these two. The way they viewed each other and the way they related to each other felt very authentic and I really enjoyed seeing them interact together.”
E-Romance News – Excerpt
Dante cleared his throat. “And who are we exactly?”

“Dan and Ellie Smith.”

Dante heard another quiet groan escape his new partner. A good rule of thumb when undercover was to use a variation of your real name so you wouldn’t get mixed up during the op. Eloise was going to hate this.
“This is a great story of romance, suspense and more. I brought about a great number of emotions.” – Vickie
“…a delightfully, although somewhat predictable, story. It is well-written, captivating mystery/romance novel…
The tale sustained the reader’s interest until the very last page.” – LAWonder10
Hearts & Scribbles – Excerpt
Dante was flummoxed. Plain and simple. It was the only word he could come up with to explain his current state.

He flinched when the door closed behind Brandy with a bang. Eloise stood on the other side of the room, a flicker of hesitancy in her eyes. He hated that he was the cause of her discomfort, but c’mon. She was stunning.

Again, her understated beauty captured him. He’d sensed it was there all along, just disguised under her professional work persona. Why, he had no idea.
They both froze. Dante’s hands on her waist, hers gripping his upper arms. By the light of the moon hovering in the clear night sky, Eloise watched Dante’s gaze search her face before moving to her lips. Her breath caught.

“Back in the truck,” he said, voice low and husky, “I wanted to kiss you. Looks like fate has given me a second chance.”
“Two great protagonists with stellar chemistry. An undercover marriage with a high-stakes case. Intriguing supporting characters and lots of delightful possibilities for the series. If you love the undercover marriage trope, then you’ll love rooting for Dante and Eloise as their friendship builds into something more all while trying to catch the bad guys and secure their spots for the same promotion.”
The well-maintained one-story house was painted a bright yellow, with white shutters. Neatly trimmed bushes lined the length of the foundation. Two smaller windows, curtains drawn, flanked the large picture window in the center of the home. A flag with bright flowers greeted them as it swayed from a holder by the front door. Best of all, in Dante’s opinion, it had a two-car garage. He planned on moving a car he’d been working on here in order to keep up with their cover.

“What do you think?”

“It’s lovely. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I could only pull up a picture of the outside of the house from satellite imagery.”

“Think you could live here for a couple weeks?”
“I love a good opposites attract love story and Dante and Eloise couldn’t be more opposite! I loved the clash and pull between them in almost every situation. It was great. . . . The added bit of light suspense the mystery provided help in the all around full feel of the book. I really liked it a lot!”
She held her breath when she saw the desire and admiration in his eyes.

“I’d like us to be partners, Ellie. In real life. It’s not a decision I can make on my own, so I’m asking you to think about it.”

Her throat went dry and she had to clear it before speaking. “How do I know I can trust you?”

“By giving me a lifetime to prove myself to you.”
Book by Book – Review
The Lawman’s Secret Vow is a great choice for any fan of heartwarming contemporary romance. I completely enjoyed the time I spent with it—seeing Eloise and Dante both playfully and professionally work their way to a happy conclusion made me smile every time I picked up the book—and now, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for Randel’s Meet Me at the Altar books.”
“HEY, ELLIE. WAIT UP.”

Eloise ignored the jolt to her heart and turned to find Dante racing through the parking lot the next morning. The sun was shining, the temperature hovered in the mid seventies and Dante was calling her name. Did life get any better? She took a breath and kept her voice level. “What’s up?”

The bright morning light lifted the multiple shades of brown in his unruly hair. Dark sunglasses shaded his eyes, but not the cocky curve of his lips.

“I just found out we’re short a person for the mud run on Saturday.”

“That’s too bad.” Adjusting her purse strap on her shoulder, she was disappointed by his statement, though why, she couldn’t explain. She headed for the building.
“An intense story line, filled with intrigue, danger and a happily ever after! The latest from Tara Randel packs a punch! Not only do we get the normal sweet romance that she’s known for, but we also get a boatload of mystery as they go undercover and we have to try to figure out who the bad guys are. . . . overall, it was a compellingly rich plot and gave me that happily ever after I was looking for.”
Together. Right. She needed her cop face right now because she didn’t know how else to cover the riot of emotions battling inside her. Taking a deep breath, she met Dante’s shuttered gaze. “I’m good.”

“No, you’re not,” he muttered as he took her hand and practically dragged her across the lawn, his bossiness almost bringing a smile to her face.

Once inside the house, Dante said, “Let me get my wallet and keys.”

She nodded, on autopilot as she went to the master bathroom to splash water on her face. Her heart still raced and her head pounded.
“I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is not your typical Heartwarming romance. It has a small suspenseful side to it. Books with undercover work never cease to keep me enthralled. I could not put this book down. I literally even killed the battery on my tablet.”
Becky on Books – Excerpt
“How long have you been married?”

“We’re newlyweds,” Dante said, slipping his arm around her waist to tug her closer, wrapping her in the cocoon of his spicy cologne. She fought the telltale shivers she was sure would give her feelings away if Dante noticed.

“I remember those early days,” a woman said, grinning at her husband. “Every year we celebrate at the first place we met. Where’d you two fall in love?”

Eloise glanced at Dante. He met her gaze with a blank. Oh, no.
He nodded his head toward her. “Where were you tonight?”

“A new club. Twilight. It just opened and Stella’s been dying to go. There were lots of women, few husbands and many male employees. Let’s just say I was glad to call it a night. Things were getting out of hand.”

“Not your scene?”

She shuddered. “Never in a million years.” She paused. “Not that I’m boring or anything.”

Dante checked the mirror again. “Didn’t say you were.”

Nice to Come Home To

We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops
you can see snippets, as well as the link to each full post, below:

Launch – Note from the Author

Thank you so much for joining me on the debut ride for Nice To Come Home To. It’s the third book in a mini-series from Lake Miniagua, and Cass and Luke’s story was such a satisfying one to tell. I have to admit I got a little selfish in the writing of it…

I hope you enjoy the trip with me this week. There will be giveaways, excerpts, some blog posts where I hope you join in the conversations, and…did I mention giveaways?

— Liz

Nicole’s Book Musings – Review

“I really enjoyed this book. It’s a make you feel good book. The story was great and had me eagerly gobbling up this book. It had it’s funny carefree moments, but also serious hit you right in the heart moments. . . . All the characters are well written and makes you want to be part of this little town.”

Declarations of a Fangirl – Cass’s & Luke’s Tips on Running an Orchard

Thank you so much for having me here today!

Cass Gentry writes a cozy mystery series and has spent most of her adult life in California. Although she played volleyball in high school, that was twenty years ago. She’s not a country girl—much less an outdoorsy one, but when her mother dies, Cass inherits half of an apple orchard on Lake Miniagua, Indiana…

Reading is my SuperPower – Review

“Another great contemporary (clean!) romance from Liz Flaherty, set in the quaint Indiana town of Lake Miniagua. I loved watching Cass and Luke’s relationship move from business colleagues to a sweet friendship to something even sweeter. Great characters, a beautiful setting, and humor as well as heart abound – not to mention the gentle message of accepting yourself, flaws and all, and accepting the painful parts of your story with grace and self-forgiveness.”

Hearts and Scribbles – Excerpt

“Mr. Rossiter?”

The voice came as he was locking the door of the apple barn behind him. He turned, squinting into the setting sun. “Yes? We’re closed, but can I get you something quick?”

“I’m Cass Gentry.”

“Oh.” The sun moved enough that she became less of a silhouette and more of the tall, slender person he remembered from Marynell’s funeral. She wasn’t as slim now, and the cap of light brown hair was almost certainly her own, but he’d have recognized her anywhere. He extended his hand. “Nice to meet you. I expected you earlier today.”

Remembrancy – Review

“Liz Flaherty brings this series full circle. Don’t worry, if you haven’t read the other two books, you won’t be lost, but if you have, Nice to Come Home To is that much sweeter. As Cass learns that some friendships survivor tragedy, that family is what you make it,and that accepting herself—flaws and all—is the only way to live fully. And maybe, just maybe, falling in love isn’t something to fear.”

Among the Reads – About Brothers and Sisters and Teenagers

Thank you for having me here today.

The only teenagers I raised were the ones I’d known since birth, whose diapers I’d changed and whose personalities I’d had something to do with and who I loved more than I ever thought it was possible to love anyone…

Inside the Mind of an Avid Reader – Review

“Nice to Come Home To by Liz Flaherty is a wonderful read. . . . This book touches so many emotions and heartfelt situations. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Royce, Cass, Zoey, Lucas, and Seth. These characters are all absolutely wonderful and each have their own story to tell.”

E-Romance News – Excerpt

When Luke gets his first clue that Cass isn’t going to be a silent partner…

Cass beamed, her eyes lighting. The expression opened a place in him he’d thought was permanently closed. Oh, boy. “I love the orchard, and I love everything you’ve done to it.”

Encouraged, he asked the question that had lingered uppermost in his mind since they’d toured the orchard earlier in the day. “Do you know what you’d like to do? Stay a silent partner like your mother was? Sell out? I don’t have the money, but having a financially savvy brother-in-law has ensured I have good credit.”

It was as if he’d slapped her. The light left her eyes and her beam faded to a polite smile. She started to speak, then stopped, turning her head to gaze out at the lake. Spangled with moonlight, starshine and colored lights on boats cruising the calm water, it was a good thing to look at. Calming and exhilarating at the same time.

What had he said? Whatever it was, she was neither acknowledging nor answering.

Splashes of Joy – Review

“Cass and Luke’s story is a beautiful and heartwarming one. I enjoyed watching the two work closely together, attractions were noticeable, but they were so determined to not fall in love. . . . I appreciate so much that this is a good clean, fun, and enjoyable book to read!”

Book Lover in Florida – Excerpt

When Luke is still being a pain in the neck about the coffee shop…

“Tell me again why we can’t just have the coffee shop in the center corridor of the barn. It’s plenty big enough and access is right there from both entrances. That leaves the side areas for offices or even other little shops if this thing takes off.” Luke looked both tired and impatient. And on the edge of angry.

Cass wasn’t good at standing her ground—it wasn’t something that had ever worked particularly well for her. But… “Because the coziness factor would be gone. It would never be quiet or intimate or conducive to working.” She had said all this. She knew she had. Who knew that under that straight, silky hair of his, Luke Rossiter had such a thick head?

Britt Reads Fiction – Review

“I really enjoyed this sweet story. There are other stories related to this one, all set in this quaint community. However, the author did a really good job of making this book readable as a stand alone. I had not read the other stories and had no trouble diving into this one.”

Handcrafted Reviews – The Idea Trail

I’m not much for having ideas. I mean, I like the idea if having them, but I think when the Lord was wiring my brain, He gave me frizzy hair instead of ideas—that’s all I can figure. Naturally enough, one of the most frequent questions a writer is asked is, “Where do you come up with your ideas?”

Er…what ideas would those be?

But with Nice to Come Home To, released this month from Harlequin Heartwarming (squealing and jumping up and down here—aren’t you glad you can’t see the frizzy hair?), I can pinpoint the idea trail. Want to come along?…

Book by Book – Review

“So, if you’re in need of a heartfelt contemporary romance to read, check out Nice to Come Home To. I enjoyed experiencing the ups and downs with Flaherty’s immensely likeable characters and smalltown community, and I’m sure you will, too.”

Becky on Books – Meeting the Protagonists of Nice to Come Home To

Thanks for having me here today!

Characters, and the development thereof, are my favorite parts of writing books. They usually come to me pretty fully developed, scars and all, long before I know their stories. This is fun.

But then the characters do exactly what everyone else does—they change…

Thoughts of a Blonde – Review

“An emotional rollercoaster that will leave you smiling! This story was quick to draw my attention with it’s in depth details of what each character is feeling as the setting is laid out. We get not only the potential romance of Cass and Luke, but also several feel good moments between the older characters and with the teens. It’s a complex story with many pieces pulling at our hearts, but it comes together well. Memorable, sweet and very enjoyable. Loved it!”

My Life, Loves and Passion – Excerpt

A kissing kind of day…

Luke’s distinctive rap came on the door at that moment, and the women laughed as Cass went to open it. He called, “Evening, Zoey,” and pulled Cass onto the porch, wrapping his arms around her. “This is probably wrong on so many different levels, but I can’t care right now. It’s a kissing kind of day.” The last words were murmured against her lips, and all she could do was swallow a sigh.

They’d avoided physical contact beyond the occasional one-armed hug, even though they’d talked all around the subject. The conversation always ended with the assertion that neither of them was interested in dating anyone, much less someone they were in business with. If they got a little hormonal, well, that was just the way it was. They were adults, after all—they could handle themselves. Besides everything else, they were in charge of two teenagers whose hormones made their own look like rank amateurs.

My Devotional Thoughts – Review

“I did enjoy and connect with the two main characters–Cass and Luke. Both are a little bit older and have been married before. That already made them more interesting and relatable to me. The story was sweet with a little conflict here and there, but never more than what the reader would want.

…I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a solid romance with heart, soul, and lightheartedness.”

It’s All About the Romance – Breast Cancer

Thank you so much for having me to visit!

Breast cancer has affected my life. I lost my mother to it, my friends Dottie and Inge, and others. I have friends who are fighting it now. When you read Nice to Come Home To, you won’t see their names in the dedication—that happened years ago when I wrote One More Summer—but the disease still attacks. All too often, it still wins…

underneath the covers – Excerpt

When Cass finds out where the music is…

Later that day, walking through the orchard with Misty keeping her company, Cass looked through the branches of a pear tree, loving the picture the nearly leafless limbs made against the pale blue sky.

She eyed the tree trunk where it divided. It made her wish she had one of the orchard’s ladders out here. It had been a while since she climbed a tree just for the sake of climbing it. The last time had probably been when the volleyball team camped near the creek at the back of the Worths’ farm.

There weren’t enough leaves left on the tall Bartlett pear tree to offer the whispering accompaniment to her thoughts she remembered from those days, but still…it had been a while.

Note from the Author

Funny how the waning twilight of life shines so brightly on one’s mistakes. Nearing his eightieth birthday, family patriarch Elias Blackwell can only hope it’s not too late to rectify a few of his. Namely, his relationships with his five grandsons, Jonathon, Ethan, Ben, Tyler, and Chance. With both the operation of the Blackwell Family Ranch and the boys’ upbringing entrusted to him after the tragic death of his son and daughter-in-law, he made a mess of both. Now the boys are scattered to the winds and the family legacy is in jeopardy. Bringing his family back together is going to take every bit of the ingenuity, shrewdness, and tenacity Elias is known for. And, yes, maybe it’ll even take a bit of deception to instigate the Return of the Blackwell Brothers.

Each subsequent book in the series will release as follows:
The Rancher’s Twins by Carol Ross, August 1st
The Rancher’s Rescue by Cari Lynn Webb, September 1st
The Rancher’s Redemption by Melinda Curtis, October 1st
The Rancher’s Fake Fiancée by Amy Vastine, November 1st
The Rancher’s Homecoming by Anna J. Stewart, December 1st
In book one, The Rancher’s Twins, single father and rancher Jon Blackwell needs help. His five-year-old twin girls are out of control, it’s calving season, and his grandfather is MIA. Hiring a real nanny, a professional childcare worker from an accredited agency with years of experience, turns out to be the best decision ever. Lydia is amazing. She adores the girls. The girls love her. Even as Jon wonders if she’s too good to be true, he finds himself smitten, too. What he doesn’t know is that Lydia isn’t a professional at all. She’s on the run and using the ranch to hide out. Just when Jon begins to believe that life might actually be as sweet as Lydia’s smile, her past shows up and threatens to destroy them all.

Excerpt

THAT WAS THE moment Lydia realized that she’d talked herself into a corner. She didn’t want to lie to him. Of course, she was sort of lying to him by being here as it was. But that was different. She’d had no idea that she’d fall in love—with him, his girls, the ranch, Falcon Creek. “I just kind of fell into it. All the jobs and experiences I’ve had seemed to point me in this direction. When my friend saw the position available, he encouraged me to take it.” That felt good, truthful. “And I’m so glad I did. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

“But…how is that possible?”

“What do you mean?”

“Stuck out here in the middle of nowhere taking care of someone else’s kids? This is the life you want?”

Lydia stared back at him, hoping her heart wasn’t showing in her eyes. “Um…” She turned and held her arms out in front of her. “This isn’t exactly nowhere. Pretty sure it’s the most beautiful place on earth.”

“I’m not trying to put you on the spot here, it’s just that I’m wondering why.”

In that moment, she wished she could tell him everything. But what would he think of her? There wasn’t a situation in the world that would cause Jon Blackwell to run from his problems the way she’d always run from hers. Maybe, she could tell him a little, though. Tanner’s warnings surfaced but she brushed them away. She’d keep things vague.

“Well, Jon, I’ve made some mistakes. I haven’t had great luck with relationships.” With a little grimace, she went on, “There’s no luck involved. It’s more that I get involved with the wrong guys. The last one was a real piece of work. I had a difficult time getting out of the relationship.” Gripping the rock she’d gathered, she continued, “That’s part of the reason that I took this job, to get away from him. I needed to get out of Philadelphia.”

Jon’s eyes homed in on her like a laser beam. “Lydia, did some guy…? What are you talking about? If someone hurt you, I’d like to know about it.”

Lydia’s heart fluttered helplessly in her chest. She couldn’t help but wonder how it would feel to have a man protect her for once, or at least to not want to hurt her. And not just any man, but this man, who was strong and smart and good. Too good, maybe, because he ended up with a woman who took advantage of that goodness. She ignored the little voice that reminded her that she was currently doing the same.

But she didn’t want to be. She wanted to protect him, too, from the wiles of Ava and Marilee. She wanted to help him in every way that she could—take care of his girls, support him on the ranch and keep him from working too hard. She wanted to be his partner. And love them all in the way they deserved.

“Um…he didn’t hurt me physically.” Lydia had often thought he wanted to. She suspected he’d been abusive in other relationships. “But he could be rough and the threat of more was always there. Verbal abuse, yes. I worked for him so that made it all worse.” She sighed. It was so difficult to explain without explaining. “At the end, I lived in constant fear.”

Lydia watched his mouth flatten out to a thin, angry line. “You deserve so much better.”

“Thank you. I know I want better.”

“What do you want?” His voice was low and deep and somehow made her want to cry a little.

You, her heart answered immediately. It hurt that she couldn’t say it, so she looked out at the view again. Doing her best to lighten the moment, she tossed the rock from the cliff and answered in a teasing tone, “Oh, I don’t know. Not much really. Just love, safety, security… And someday…maybe my own horse.”

Her attempt at levity didn’t work.

Jon looked out toward the horizon. He was still and appeared calm. But Lydia knew him better now. Tension radiated from him and she knew it wasn’t anger. Her breath stalled as her pulse began to pound fast and hard. His expression was pure Rancher Blackwell—grave and solemn and almost unreadable. Almost, because she could see the vulnerability there. She knew he had feelings for her, too. The attraction between them had been simmering hotly since he’d kissed her on Easter. What she hadn’t known was what those feelings entailed or how strong they were. But now she did. And at that moment, all of the reasons why they couldn’t be together flew out of her head. Which left only her heart, aching and craving his love. Just say it, she silently pleaded. Because no matter what happened long-term she wanted to hear the words at least once in her life from a person she wanted to hear them from.

He faced her again, his gray-blue gaze ensnaring hers. Her heart jumped into her throat. “What if I told you that I want those things, too? And what if I told you that I didn’t ever want to let you go, not even when the girls leave for college?”
